No doubt that Apple smartwatches are so fantastic and best but it does cost much too. Here comes an affordable option that’s Huawei Watch GT2 as it’s affordable with a price point of ₹15,990 It also has a heart rate sensor, long battery life, an AMOLED display, and sleek design.
Design and built quality of Huawei Watch GT2
I had to review the 46mm stainless steel variant as the smaller one with 42mm isn’t available for the Indian market. It has got a black sports band suiting on any kind of outfits you put on. The watch dial is circular and has two crowns. It also has a bezel that doesn’t rotate but still, it gives a great look. There’s a heart rate sensor to the back of the watch and to the right microphone and speakers are noticeable.
Its weight and size is all fine. The silicon straps never hurt me while any of the movements I made. The watch can resist up to 5 atmospheric pressure in short it can stay for half an hour and up to 50 meters underwater. The watch can be taken out on a rainy day or else you can plan swimming having it worn over the wrist.
Display and watch faces of Huawei Watch GT2
The watch has 1.39 inches of AMOLED touch display having 454 x 454 pixels of resolution which makes the display look sharp and crisp even on a bright sunny day. I loved the Always-on feature as whenever in the rain or during the meeting, I never had to tap on the display for watching the time.
You get 14 different watch faces but it’s a little upsetting that you can’t download more if you wish while having paired to an iPhone. Else you can download more on having paired to the Android phone.
Performance and Battery of Huawei Watch GT2
It has it’s own Huawei K1 chipset and 4 GB of storage on which I never encountered any issue. Even there were no lags on scrolling the menu or checking notifications.
You can also make calls through the watch but you need a phone nearby. The built-in speakers can be used for taking calls as well for listening to the music too. Sensors packed in the watch include a gyroscope, an accelerometer, an optical heart rate scanner, and an air pressure sensor. However, missing the NFC feature this watch has got built-in GPS for location tracking. The battery life of the watch is great as it lasted for a week on a single charge. The battery gets drained more quicker while workout sessions.
Software and fitness tracking in Huawei Watch GT2
The weak point is the software as the UI is simple and easy to navigate but it’s not good, not bad. Notifications on the watch do come without automatically turning the display on which is hectic. On receiving the notifications, you can view them but helplessly can’t reply which is so pity to feel. The watch didn’t get an app store for not letting you to download more apps and play around the pre-installed apps all the time.
The fitness tracking is great as it tracks heart rate, calories burned, steps, distances walked, etc. It tracks heart rate accurately as well as the steps you take. It also monitors 15 various activities you do right from swimming to hiking. You can monitor your sleep also as the heart rate sensor and AI combinely provide you the sleep analysis.
The collected data of the workout can be viewed on the Huawei Health App. This feels so basic on an ios app whereas on an Android app the app offers more improved features.
The watch has solid built quality and excellent fitness tracking capabilities. I am not sure for recommending this to you as it falls a little weak as a smartwatch. As the watch is confusing due to being a smartwatch but having more fitness features. It’s a beautiful fitness tracker in a straight sense. I suggest you consider buying the Apple Watch Series 3 or Fossil sport.
